And the Winner of Our QuiltCon Booth Hop Is…

Suzanne Marquez of Monrovia, CA!  Congratulations, Suzanne on successfully completing the Hop across our sponsor booths, and submitting the winning entry!  We’re compiling your prize package now, a fun and fabulous mix of quilting goodies from Studio 37, our talented designers, and our generous partners.

It was great to visit with so many of our quilting friends in sunny Pasadena to celebrate the best in modern and contemporary quilting.  Thanks again to everyone who participated in the Booth Hop, and a special “Thank You” to our sponsors and wonderful creative partners, including AurifilOlfaSizzix, and Private Source Quilting.

What’s In Store Now (Literally), from Studio 37…plus a Giveaway!

While some of our staffers and designers are recovering from QuiltCon mania in Pasadena this past weekend, we thought we’d review three can’t-miss collections you’ll find in your favorite quilt shops now…plus, following the show, we’re still in Giveaway mode, so read on for details on how to enter and WIN a Studio 37 fabric bundle!

IMBUE – Kim Eichler-Messmer’s debut collection for Studio 37 is a beautiful blend of artisan batiks. You’ll love her color sense, whether you use them all together, or combine just a few of the colors in a project, like Kim did in her “Robie” quilt design below.

COLOR MOOD – Inspired by contemporary rainbow themes across various design categories, coupled with the vast technological capabilities of digital fabrics, Laura Berringer brings us a fun and exciting group, to be used as it is, or thoughtfully cut and re-pieced for limitless creative options…or, you could always just wrap yourself up in it until the right inspiration strikes  ; )PRIMO PLAID FLANNELS — At the same time, we love how well Laura’s COLOR MOOD plays with our best-selling yarn-dyed plaid flannels, now in Nancy Rink’s TWILIGHT TONES palette (we told you these Color Moods were fun!!)  These bright and beautiful flannels are also in your local quilt shops now, so you can sew and enjoy them now through the spring season, and have a colorful headstart into next autumn, too…

Now, about the GIVEAWAY:  Just subscribe to our blog, then comment below on your favorite contemporary quilt trends, whether or not you attended Quilt Con.  What color palettes, techniques or quilt styles draw you to the modern side? Comments received by Monday, March 6 will be entered into our random drawing for a bundle of contemporary inspiration!

Who’s In on Karen Styles’ BATHWICK Mystery Quilt?

We’re pleased to share the news that QuiltMania magazine has partnered with our own Karen Styles of Somerset Patchwork & Quilting, to launch their exciting Mystery Quilt event for 2018!  The quilt features Karen’s beautiful BATHWICK collection, inspired by an 18th Century Georgian quilt from her private collection. Many of these fabrics were originally printed in Great Britain in the mid 1700s, an era of romantic poets, landscape painters and distinctive architecture in the historic English city of Bath.

The first block (above) has been released for this truly international event, with kits available through participating shops from all around the world.  If you’ve ever shied away from a mystery quilt because you can’t see the end result, Karen’s first block will give you all the confidence you need to get started!  Enjoy…

GTKH, Now in a 6-Inch Wide Strip Bundle!

Nancy Rink’s GTKH: Getting to Know Hue collection inspires a fresh new look for 2018, with a new 6″ WIDE precut bundle (24 prints) and two new patterns designed by Tiffany Hayes, a friend of Nancy’s, and the owner of Needle in a Hayes Stack.

Tiffany created the “Stars Over Hue” pattern specifically for the new 6” wide strip bundles, then quickly followed up with a second quilt, a re-work of her existing Double Churn block.  Tiffany  manipulated the block design until she was able to utilize all of the pieces in the strip bundle, and the result is her “Double Churn” quilt pattern.  The bundle includes (24) strips, 6” wide x WOF, a generous put-up that lends itself to many other quilt designs as well.  Ask for it at your favorite local quilt shop!

Let’s Meet at QUILTCON! — Part II

We’re happy to have the newest member of the Studio 37 design team joining us at QuiltCon! Meet Kim Eichler-Messmer, whose debut collection of gorgeous artisan batiks, IMBUE is hitting quilt shops this month!

FREE DEMO: Kim will share her techniques for reverse applique on Thursday from 2-4pm in our booth (911).  She’s also giving two lectures (at this time, they’re both still available, unlike her reverse applique workshop that’s already sold out!)  Her lectures include:

Fine Art to Functional Quilts – Thursday 2/22 10:30 – 11:15am.  Kim studied painting and printmaking in college (among many, many other things) and pursued a career in fine art. She never intended to make a quilt until, one day in graduate school, it seemed like a good idea. Armed with a sewing machine, scissors, some precious hand dyed fabric, and no idea what she was doing, she embarked on a quilt adventure. Essentially, she learned how to quilt by doing everything wrong. Hear about her path from Fine Art to Functional Quilts and how inspiration can be found all around us.

Dyeing Fabric for Modern Quilts, Saturday 2/24 1:45 – 2:30pm Dyeing your own fabric is a great way to customize your quilts and is much easier than you might think. Kim will discuss different dyes and methods including natural and synthetic dye, indigo, removing dye, and shibori. If you’ve been wanting to add dyeing to your quilt tool box but aren’t sure how, this lecture will provide the resources and inspiration you need to create dyed fabrics to mix in with your favorite Studio 37 fabrics!

Expand your creativity with free demos and lectures like these, plus booth displays, classes, exhibits, vendors, and the general joyful interaction that quilting brings, all at QuiltCon — there’s still time to register!!

PANTONE Ultra Violet: Comment to Win!

PANTONE Color InstitutePantone has picked another winner for its Color of the Year!  It’s ULTRA VIOLET 18-3838, and it’s actually a great complement to last year’s wildly popular pic, GREENERY, as well as other shades of green, blue and purple.  Pantone says of the choice:

“Inventive and imaginative, Ultra Violet lights the way to what is yet to come. A dramatically provocative and thoughtful purple shade, PANTONE 18-3838 Ultra Violet communicates originality, ingenuity, and visionary thinking that points us toward the future.”   (Don’t you just love Pantone’s narratives?)

We’re sold! What do you think of this year’s star color?  Comment on Studio 37’s Instagram post by this Friday, January 26 for a chance to win a fabric bundle in honor of this year’s pick!

Seasons’ Greetings from Marcus Fabrics!

As we officially celebrate the holidays today in the office, we want to also wish all of our friends and associates a Happy, Healthy and Joyful holiday season!  We enjoyed a delicious and varied buffet — including some dishes prepared from favorite family recipes!   Thank You to everyone who helped to arrange a beautiful lunch…even better, there’s plenty of food, and dessert, left for tomorrow, too  ; )

PS — In case you were wondering, Pati (lower right side) was more interested in showing off her not-so-Christmasy-but-still-very-cute blush pink suede boots…), rather than smile for the camera.

A Few PEEPS Fun Facts:

PEEPS® marshmallow candies aren’t just for Easter anymore!  People who love the sweet treats can enjoy them on all kinds of holidays now, and since our new PEEPS collection will soon be appearing in your local quilt shops, we thought we’d share a few PEEPS fun facts with you.  Did you know…

  • 52 million PEEPS are made in an 8-week period for Easter sales
  • 21 million families purchase peeps each year
  • Easter candy as a whole is a $2.6 billion industry
  • Key consumers spend about $170.00 on Easter, which includes $24.00 worth of candy
  • PEEPS cannot walk, change expression or talk.  They only communicate through text bubbles  ; )
  • PEEPS people also tend to be avid crafters, so we know you’ll love the fabrics as much as the candies.  We’re thinking Easter basket liners, quilts, pillows, table settings, soft-sculpture chicks and bunnies, and sew much more!
