Hello Quilting Friends! If you haven’t signed up yet for your favorite 2019 Marcus BOM programs yet, remember that January marks the start of three exciting block-of-the-month programs, followed by three more beginning in March. You’ll love these gorgeous designs by Nancy Rink, Pam Buda, Sarah Maxwell, and Sheryl Johnson.
With only days to go before Christmas, we know some of you are still feverishly stitching up gifts for everyone on your list (or still deciding what to sew!!), and we’ve got a great, FAST project to help you! It doesn’t require any fitting or advanced sewing skills, and just about everyone can use a cozy infinity scarf, so just choose their favorite colors from our extensive range of PRIMO PLAID FLANNEL color palettes, and get sewing!
This project actually yields two identical scarves using your favorite pair of PRIMO PLAIDS. Sew up the perfect his-n-hers accessory, or fun, easy BFF gifts. You can even share your style with your favorite pet ; ) You can also tuck the back under your coat collar and pull the scarf overhead as a hood. No matter who you share with, you can stitch up both scarves in less than 20 minutes!
FABRIC REQUIREMENTS: (Makes 2 scarves from a pair of fabrics)
- 1½ yards each of two coordinating PRIMO PLAIDS
- Cut each fabric in half lengthwise as shown. You’ll use one A and one B fabric for each scarf.
- Pair up one A fabric with one B fabric, with right sides together and long raw edges even. Sew down each long side using at least 3/8” seam allowance. (Fig. 2) Press seams.
- With scarf still turned right sides in, fold scarf in half to bring together the two short ends, with raw edges even. Stitch together the inner edges. Stitch together as far as possible, leaving an opening of at least 4” for turning. (Fig 3) Press seam.
- Turn scarf right side out through the opening. Slipstitch to close the opening.
- Twist scarf at the center into a figure-8 and slip over the head. Sew second scarf in the same fashion.
Yes, we know it’s barely Thanksgiving, much less Christmas, but at Marcus we’ve already turned our holiday sights on Spring 2019, and all of the great Easter holiday crafting and quilting to be done, so join us in the early planning ; ) First, a little preview of the all-new PEEPS® prints coming to your favorite quilt shops in January:
PEEPS’ iconic Bunny and Chick motifs are back, and ready to become Easter basket liners, quilts, wall hangings, table linens, decorations and sew much more — the pre-printed panel design is ready for creative cutting as appliques and smaller crafts. Mix these with your favorite Marcus CENTENNIAL SOLIDS or PRIMO PLAID FLANNELS: Sew Sweet to expand your creative options!

Well, the Electric Quilt Design Challenge for October has come to a close, resulting in a total of 52 great entries from quilters using Electric Quilt to design quilts using Laura Berringer’s KI-COO GARDENS collection. You can view all of the creative designs here, but for now we’d like to highlight the two entries chosen as winners in EQ’s random drawing!
Holly Wilson describes her creation as “A Little applique wall (hanging), with Ki-Coo Gardens, which provided a spin on the colors I would have normally used. The color palette can be used with a multitude of designs.”
Debbie Langendorf said of her winning entry (below): “I’ve been making small quilts and thought this might be very nice for Spring. I love the colors of these fabrics. They are bright and happy. Because my block has small triangles I wanted the Points Out border to highlight more of the fabrics. This was fun.”
Both Holly and Debbie Will receive fabric packs of Ki-Coo Gardens prints. Well done, ladies, enjoy the real fabrics this time ; ) And thanks to everyone who participated, as well as our friends at EQ.
HOLIDAY 2019 – We officially welcomed Vicki McCarty to our designer family at Quilt Market in Houston, and her debut collection PATCHES OF JOY is already a hit! It features her “Patch-It” panel (27″ x 44″) of classic Christmas motifs perfect for all types of embellishment, or used just as they are. The patchwork layout designed to be cut apart as well so you can create a variety of projects from just one panel, also plain or embellished. Vicki’s four coordinating creative strips are comprised of 5″ wide printed across the width. The collection was inspired by her popular Calico Christmas Stitch-A-Long.

Annette Fecteau of Temecula, CA!! Annette commented: “I mainly make mini/doll size quilts that I incorporate into vignettes around the house. Haven’t used too many layer cakes, but using one to make that many projects is inspiring. Like the options.”
We’ll be shipping Annette’s copy of the book and Pam’s Prairie Basics & Shirtings precuts immediately after Quilt Market.
Thanks sew much to everyone who commented on our Pam Buda blog post! You shared some great ideas for using Marcus Fabrics 10″ precuts, and of course, your love for Pam is stronger than ever! Just wait until you see her next project – it’s a 12-month Club concept that begins in January. Stay tuned for updates, and until then, keep creating!
Have you seen Pam Buda’s new book yet? Vintage Patchwork is her new title (Martingale), and it guides you in creating a dozen tiny treasures with just ONE pack of 10″-square precut fabrics! No extra fabric needed (except for backing)–every last scrap is put to beautiful use. Stitch eight little quilts to hang on walls, display on tables, or tuck into baskets and nestle on bookshelves. Four petite pincushions will add a warm, cozy feel to even the smallest of spaces. Perfect for gift giving too!
Make projects one at a time or cut fabrics for all 12 projects at once –handy cutting diagrams included on a pullout sheet make it easy. A swatch guide provides a simple way to organize and plan where to use each 10″ square.
We’ve partnered with our friends at Martingale to give away a 10″ fabric bundle of Pam’s Prairie Basics & Shirtings, with a copy of Pam’s book. For your chance to win, just comment below and tell us what projects you love to make with 10″ squares? Mugrugs, mini quilts, pillows, pincushions?? Comments received by Monday, Oct 29 are eligible for the drawing — good luck!!
