It’s Quilt Market Time Again!

QM-SP14-QuiltsOnWall

DecoupageChair-AmerBouquetThat hectic season when all the behind-the-scenes prep takes place, resulting in the beautiful, well-oiled machine that is our Quilt Market Booth!  Almost daily, new made-up items arrive here in the office for the booth display.  Here’s a peek at some projects using PRIMO PLAIDS – CHRISTMAS, AMERICAN BOUQUET, and AUNT GRACE TIES ONE ON, from left to right.  (We’ll follow up with Pati for specific pattern info on these projects later — judging from how quickly she’s racing thru the halls, clearly now is not the time… We look forward to seeing all of our quilt shop owner customers and associates in Pittsburgh, May 15-18.

Lar’s Civil War Tribute Quilt

We received this note through Judie Rothermel, from quilter Lars Rune in Norway.  He recreated his own very unique version of Marcus Fabrics’ Civil War TRIBUTE quilt.  He wrote to Judie and submitted this photo, explaining:

“I think a quilter has the right to personalise the pattern to make it his own, so I took the Tribute BOM quilt and adapted it to tell a story from my own life. With truly great fabrics from many of your Civil War era prints collected, and information from your Civil War Quilts book, I had enough inspiration to tackle my first quilt project. Judie-AltTributeQuiltIt’s machine pieced and hand quilted — I really love hand quilting. I used YLI hand quilting threads and auditioned the thread to match the prints as best as possible.
I quilted all pieces either 1/4 inch or 3/16 inch from the ditch. I didn’t want the quilt design itself to take away from the prints or blocks. Your ruler was a great help in both cutting the pieces and marking the quilt lines.  All 43 Chronicle prints and 48 Tribute prints are used in this; altogether, approximately 225 of your prints are included.”
We at Marcus congratulate Lars on his beautiful rendition of the Civil War TRUBITE quilt!

Pati’s CA Road Trip Continues…

Moving on to Redlands, Pati checks in with the Painted Lady Quilt Shop.  It’s a true haven for Judie Rothermel fans: a customer work-in-progress featuring Pine Tree Lodge (upper left); a full wall of her prints (lower right photo),  and Kerri, who owns the shop, reports that 30 people already signed up for the Civil War: PEACE & UNITY Block of the Month (lower left).  At upper right is Faye Burgos’  LOVE & GLORY.  Judging from these pics, it’s probably safe to say that combinations of blue with red are probably popular in Redlands as well!

Have You Seen the Cover Of McCall’s Quilting?

…The first issue of 2014 (Jan/Feb) just hit my desk, and we’re thrilled to see Nancy Rink’s quilt made the cut!  It’s on the chair, third from the left, and it features PARTY OF TWELVE by Judie Rothermel, PIN MONEY by Pam Buda and PAULA BARNES COMPANIONS.  Check out this full view of the quilt, called “Clara’s Pride”...with just two block designs and a beautiful range of repro prints, we think it’s a great way to begin the quilting year!  Congratulations, Nancy!  — lisa s

…and one entry that was completed after the deadline. Miniature hexies, anyone?

With an impressive 24 entries sponsored, Little Quilts owner Mary Ellen VonHolt proudly hosted the special event — part meet-and-greet, part trunk show – for an excited group of contestants, customers and guests.  Mary Ellen and Judie showed some of her own quilts, and attendees left with goodies including Judie’s tips for creating with miniatures, and much more! …As they say, a wonderful time was had by all!  Congratulations again to Little Quilts and its entrants on a job beautifully done.

“Inspired by Judie Rothermel”

Another Quilt Market find was “Feathers and Stars Abound”, by Zvia Strahilevitz-Klein.  This gorgeous quilt design was part of the Coats-sponsored special exhibit entitled In the American Tradition 2013.   We think the quilter’s own comments say it best — see below…
