Meet Susan Cousineau of Lollipop Rainbow

Susan CousineauSpring 2015 marks the debut of TWO collections from designer Susan Cousineau.  You might recognize her name as a top designer of kids’ and craft patterns for Kwik Sew and McCalls’.

With the launch of her Lollipop Rainbow fabric collections for Marcus, Susan is “over the rainbow” with excitement as she takes her creative passion for kids’ design into a new and exciting chapter.

Now, crafters and quilters can create a well-rounded look in home décor, quilts, clothing and accessories, beginning with MAGICAL MERMAID and POLKA DOT POND. Susan’s stylized mermaid fairies and pond pals themes include prints that work beautifully by themselves, or with the coordinated pre-printed panels.  See the entire collections online (they’ll be in quilt shops this October!), and learn more about Susan.

Make Nancy Rink’s Mill Works Quilt!

APQ-MillWorksAug15APQCoverAug15APQ clearly loves Picking Violets; they chose Nancy Rink’s MILLWORKS collection for the August 2015 issue of American Patchwork and Quilting magazine.  Nancy designed the quilt as well as the fabrics, so who better to showcase its beauty with her signature combination of applique and piecing!  You’ll love the plum / sage / burgundy palette all year ’round…

Sew on the Go…Literally!

Sew on the Go...LiterallyCheck out this adorable sewing machine cover, cleverly disguised as a vintage camper! Even as it was being unpacked and still on the hotel luggage cart, it quickly became one of our more eye-catching – and amusing – booth samples.  Can’t you just imagine the little quilter stitching away inside it?

If you love vacationing with your sewing machine, you pretty much have to have one of these… This one was sewn up by Miriam Rawson in GRACIE’S SCHOOLHOUSE CLASSICS by Judie Rothermel – no better choice for a vintage camper than everyone’s favorite 1930’s reproduction fabrics!  Note that Miriam made hers a bit longer than the original pattern to accommodate her Bernina machine.

<  Need pattern information? The original design for the Vintage Caravan Sewing Machine Cover is by Janine at Rainbow Hare in the UK.

As Memorial Day Approaches…

Here in the US, we’ll celebrate Memorial Day this coming Monday, May 25.  Yesterday, I came across a Facebook post (in the Quilting group) by Tiffany Pellizzari, and am sharing one of the photos with her permission.  She lovingly recreated our LOVE & GLORY quilt for her father who was fighting cancer, and who passed on just five days after it was draped over him. It was also used at his memorial service, shown here.

Tiffany PellizzariQUILT“I hadn’t known how important it is to quilt with love until you know the person receiving it feels the love when they use it. My step mother asked to use the quilt at his memorial as you see here. It ended up being a great representation of his personality — eagles and patriotic colors on the front and vintage planes on the back (he was a pilot). Thanks for letting me share and helping me to learn something I am forever going to cherish being able to do.”

Tiffany, we are sorry for your loss, but are sure he found comfort in your beautiful quilt.   This weekend and always, we join all of our quilting friends in honoring those who have served, and continue to serve our country.

#MarcusAtMarket Wrap-Up

Another Spring Quilt Market concludes!  Thank you to our customers, friends, associates and designers for another successful event.  From long before booth set-up to breakdown, it takes lots of hands to make it all happen…

#marcusatmarket recap

There’s so much happening at Marcus, and Booth 1901 reflects it all beautifully:

1 – At left is the new Amish with a Twist III BOM by Nancy Rink, surrounded by a variety of garments and crafts in wool & cotton.

2 – l. to r.: Quilts in PAISLEY PERSUASION, PAST ENDEARMENTS and HISTORICAL STRIPES

3 – Customer service pros Indra (seated) and Regina discuss our latest with shop owners.

4 – Table tops are adorned with fusible applique – a great idea for special event decorating.  Later, you can cut away the appliqued square to repurpose as a pillow front of quilt block!

5 – ALWAYS THE SEASON quilt and holiday crafts!

6 & 7 – Two of our designers set up their booths just across from us – Pam Buda of Heartspun Quilts (you can tell her booth by the red  ; ) and Paula Barnes of Red Crinoline Quilts.

Thanks for the photos, Faye Burgos!

Trending: Folkloric Colors for 2015

Judging from this week’s color trend report from Plaid, the Folkloric influence is strong this season: “Encompassing the identity and aesthetic of many cultures, colors and textures, the folk art trend meets people at their roots.”

IntrigueCOMPThis immediately reminded me not only of Nancy Rink’s INTRIGUE collection, but also some of the newest additions to our CENTENNIAL SOLIDS, both shown here.

Any of these fabrics would work flawlessly as tablecloths, runners or placemats with coordinating painted platters or glassware.  Or try Plaid’s Folklore Garden Tray project and stitch up coordinating napkins… We know you’re passionate about your quilting, but how many of you also enjoy other creative pursuits like painting or beading where your favorite color palettes can crossover?

Trendy Grey & Yellow for Spring/Summer

MQQcoverThe new June/July 2015 issue of McCall’s Quick Quilts includes this quilt project from Homestead Hearth, in trendy grey and yellow coordinates from Faye Burgos’ GREY SKIES collection.  We like the mix of a contemporary palette, the paisley, floral and texture motifs, and classic block styling.

Subscription issues began shipping April 21, 2015. By May 5, 2015, the issue will be available on newsstands, as well as in print or digital download format at QuiltandSewShop.com. Homestead Hearth also offers a kit for the project.
