Hexie Fever is Spreading…

PVlucyhexie2PVlucyhexie1

I’ve been seeing hexagons absolutely Everywhere, in every size and fabric type imaginable. Modern hexies, traditional hexies. Grandmother’s Flower Garden hexies. Huge hexies, tiny hexies. Hexie jewelry…placemats…totebags — it goes on! Have you caught Hexie Fever, too?

PBKeyringHexiePati shared some of hers above, cut from black and cream  VINTAGE ONYX Strip-It fabric for easy two-toned hexies.  She loves Paper Pieces for her English paper piecing projects. At right, an adorable (but slightly insane) micro-hexie key ring Vicki Bellino of Bloom Creek whipped up for Pati at Quilt Market.

SewingCaddyCherylHoistJun16Then I spotted this sewing case by my quilter friend Cheryl Hoist, at a local event I attended over the weekend — African batik & Aboriginal print hexies!

PamBuda2016Pam Buda chimes in with hexies by the bowlful…

and Victoria Findlay Wolfe goes overboard…; )

VFWHexiesDo you have Hexie Fever, too? Subscribe to our blog, then coment below about what you’re making with hexies (and your favorite sizes!) for the chance to win one of TWO Hexie-Friendly charm mini-packs of Victoria’s MOSTLY MANOR!  Comments received by Tuesday, June 21 are eligible for the drawing – good luck!

Our Hearts Are In Orlando…

#quiltsforpulse

The Orlando Modern Quilt Guild is collecting quilts and blocks for the victims of the shooting at Pulse nightclub on June 12, and MQG members around the world are invited to participate. Visit this page for full details.

LOVEprintAll of us at Marcus are saddened by the senseless act, and we wanted to help the #quiltsforpulse effort in some small way.  So we’re offering 100 free FQs of the white and red “LOVE” prints from Susan Cousineau’s SO SWEET LOVE collection to our quilting friends who are making blocks and quilts for the drive. To receive your FQ, send an email to lshepard@marcusfabrics.com with your name & mailing address. Thank you for all that you do... UPDATE:  Thanks for your many responses – the offer is now CLOSED.  We’ll be sending out over 140 FQs this week!

“Splendor in the Scraps” from McCall’s Quilting

McCallsQScrapWhen we first thumbed through the July/August 2016 issue of McCalls Quilting magazine here in the office, this particular quilt caught our attention.

Quilt designer Marcie Patch used her own stash to create it, but it looks so similar to the colors in Judie Rothermel’s MACIE’S JOURNAL collection, we had to share it with you, in case the colors in your own stash weren’t sufficient to recreate it.  Enjoy…

More Mostly Manor, On Land and In Flight

SarahBondMostlymanorQThanks to our quilting friend (and award-winning fiber artist) Sarah Bond for submitting this pic of her stunning MOSTLY MANOR design. This is easily my personal favorite interpretation of Victoria’s debut collection for Studio 37 Fabrics

She explains, “It’s a class I’ve been teaching for quite a while. The pattern is mine, though of course it’s New York Beauty, so the inspiration is traditional.”

For class or pattern info, contact Sarah via Instagram @slbphilly.

Meanwhile, several thousand miles above, our own Pati Violick shows off her Lucy Boston-inspired paper piecing, during her flight to Salt Lake City for Quilt Market, in a project she calls “Lucy in the Sky” …get it??  So portable – just pack your fabric, thread, air-friendly snips and templates from Paper Pieces and you’re set!

SturbXmasQuiltNancyWe got up-close & personal with Nancy Rink’s new holiday quilt design, featuring the OLD STURBRIDGE VILLAGE COLLECTION by Judie Rothermel. As you can see, the colors and motifs lend themselves to Christmas projects wtih the rich, traditional feel of Sturbridge.  Nancy’s knack for machine quilting artistry completes the masterpiece, with accents of red and green thread on the back.  Visit Nancy online for “Mill Girls Holiday” pattern information.

“..the best organized and detailed quilting pattern…”

Sarah-NewFeb16

Sarah Maxwell

We’re so proud of the many talents of our designer community, and sometimes, when we get fan mail like this, we just have to share it!  Kudos to Sarah Maxwell of Designs by Sarah J for the many compliments on her Primo Batik BOM quilts, RADIANT REFLECTIONS and RIVER ROCK.  Shop owners and quilters alike love her innovative use of 10-1/2″ square pre-cut packs to create the quilts, as well as the instructions. Most comments echo the words of Barbara, a NC-based shop owner:

“I recently purchased your new Radiant Reflections pattern.  It is without a doubt the best organized and detailed quilting pattern I have ever seen!  As a former teacher as well as  quilt store owner, I’ve worked with many other programs, and have sometimes been very disappointed to see a dramatic quilt pictured, yet the inside information is so poorly presented that no one will ever be able to make it. I appreciate your work.”

Thank you, Barbara  ; )  As always we appreciate our customers’ comments and input!  Happy stitching to all!

Lisa’s Vacation Find…

My weekend vacation to Tampa began with a stop at Florida Quilting Center, a must-see recommended by my local quilting friend, Ann. The shop was big and gorgeous, and Karen and Jim and the staff were warm and welcoming, and the longarm studio was impressive.
