GTKH, Now in a 6-Inch Wide Strip Bundle!

Nancy Rink’s GTKH: Getting to Know Hue collection inspires a fresh new look for 2018, with a new 6″ WIDE precut bundle (24 prints) and two new patterns designed by Tiffany Hayes, a friend of Nancy’s, and the owner of Needle in a Hayes Stack.

Tiffany created the “Stars Over Hue” pattern specifically for the new 6” wide strip bundles, then quickly followed up with a second quilt, a re-work of her existing Double Churn block.  Tiffany  manipulated the block design until she was able to utilize all of the pieces in the strip bundle, and the result is her “Double Churn” quilt pattern.  The bundle includes (24) strips, 6” wide x WOF, a generous put-up that lends itself to many other quilt designs as well.  Ask for it at your favorite local quilt shop!

Coming Soon: TWILIGHT with a Twist!

A great quilt pattern is one that can adapt to different collections, to appeal to different quilters, and Nancy Rink’s Amish with a Twist Series One design is clear proof!  The BOM quilt enjoyed huge success in various CENTENNIAL SOLID palettes several seasons ago (you probably made one yourself!), and now, by popular demand, Nancy has now re-worked her pieced-and-appliqued bestseller using her new TWILIGHT TONES collection, with beautiful results…

So, for 2018, she’s putting together all of the necessary information for your quilt shops to offer this stunning new variation!  The colors are perfect for year-long enjoyment.  The five-part program results in a generously sized quilt approximately 88″ x 105″.  Check with your favorite shop for details!

We (Heart) Batik Valentine’s Mugrugs!

If you LOVE mugrugs AND batiks like we do, then you’re sure to also LOVE our easy Valentine’s Day Mugrug design!  Not only can you make these by the dozen for all the loves of your life – you can also enter each and every one of them in our new Mugrug Challenge, for a chance to win one of our weekly prizes!  Check out the Challenge details, then read the how-to below make this design… it’s the perfect complement for a cup of tea made from fresh sage leaves and a couple of tea biscuits, as shown

HeartmugugFinished

First, I cut out a paper heart shape pattern to the desired size, plus about 1/4″ seam allowance all around.  (If you’d rather not hand-cut your pattern, you’ll find about a zillion of them online, print out your favorite ; ).

HeartMugrug

Using three tonal RADIANT REFLECTIONS batiks, I started stitching up a crazy quilt block directly onto the batting (I used Fairfield Soft & Toasty cotton batting), for an easy quilt-as-you-go construction method. I added fabrics randomly until the block was just larger than the heart pattern.  I cut both the pieced block and a backing fabric from the heart pattern, and stitched them right sides together all around with a 1/4″ seam, leaving an opening to turn. Next, just turn and press, closing the opening with hand stitches or a narrow strip of fusible tape.  Add a coordinating mug or teacup, a packet of cappuccino mix or some gourmet teabags, and a love note.  Maybe a matching batik napkin for extra credit?

Now, just take a picture, enter the Challenge on Instagram with #MarcusMugshot, and your Valentine is now ready to give!          —   lisa

Plum can be cool, tinged with blue, or lean toward magenta with a slightly red tone.  It’s the color of fantasy, royalty, relaxation and more.  Our own Plum Story for 2016/17 begins with ANTIQUE COTTON CALICOS: Old Plum Calicos by Pam Buda of Heartspun Quilts.  Pam covers a perfect assortment of values from deep to pale.  Her inspiration comes from the prairie life of the past, and the colors remain just as relevant today.

plumflannelsPlum also lends itself to a more casual mood, with new PRIMO PLAID FLANNELS: Plum, perfect for loungewear, shirts, fashion accessories, plush toys, sofa throws and more, for guys and girls alike…

Try blending Pam’s gorgeous prints with the Primo flannels for a unique take on the trend. Or create a contemporary look with the subtle tones of Nancy Rink’s ON PLUMBERRY LANE, mixing plums with neutrals.  View the Lookbook.

Meet Nancy on Plumberry Lane

New from Nancy Rink for Studio 37 Fabrics: ON PLUMBERRY LANE

Her recent blog post shares a bit of her inspiration for the group, and how she’s used the collection so far. By coincidence, I spotted this pretty little quilt on Pati’s desk yesterday — it just begged to be Instagrammed, and it bears repeating here. (Be sure to follow us on IG @marcusfabrics, if you don’t already…)   And look for the fabrics in quilt shops beginning January!
