Modern Quilting Comes to Northern NJ!

With its first meeting last Thursday evening, the Northern NJ chapter of the Modern Quilt Guild began, and I had the pleasure of attending (having endured waaay too much traffic on the Garden State Parkway to get there…)  The meeting was held at Rock, Paper Scissors in Montclair, an inspiring 2-year old shop that screams Modern Quilter!  The crowd of over 40 people was an eclectic mix:  twenty-somethings to seventy-somethings, and every skill level.  Some quilted 30 years ago and want to pick up again, some are new moms with nurseries to furnish, some just came to see what all the “modern” fuss was about, others are established art quilters, etc.  See more pix on the chapter’s blog.

At any rate, I was pleased to see our SPINTASTIC line among other Marcus favorites gracing the shelves of the shop ; )

What do you think of the Modern Quilt movement? Do you make modern quilts, traditional, or both?  Be sure to check out our STUDIO 37 collections for contemporary inspiration! — lisa

  1. I’ve been quilting and teaching 25+ years. I’ve seen a lot of fabric changes in design and color. I think the fabric market has hit a good spot. Although the designs may have a 50s & 60s feel to them, the new color palet has been worth the wait.
