MedallionMuse-HHQuiltIf you’re looking for a vibrant, trans-seasonal quilt project, check out Faye Burgos’ MEDALLION MUSE collection, shown here in the “Lapis & Marigolds” quilt by Homestead Hearth. It’s featured in the latest issue of McCall’s Quilt Quilts (that’s the October/November issue), and it even made the cover!  The fabric is available in this cool blue palette shown above, and in an equally vibrant orchid/gold combination.

Quilts of Valor in Franklin, CT

JulieM-LoveGloryNews from the field, submitted by Marcus sales rep Julie Manning:

Debbie Mackenzie from Stitch Chicks Quilt Shop in Franklin, CT, hosted a ‘Quilts of Valor Charity Sew Session.’  During the event, customers created five of these quilts for the Quilts of Valor program.  The group took advantage of the gorgeous LOVE & GLORY center panel, Strip-It fabric and coordinates by Faye Burgos to stitch up simple but meaningful gifts to show their gratitude to our  US servicemen.

The Classic Appeal of Red and Blue

GalleryRedBlueCOLLAGETrends continue to point toward the graceful elegance of red and blue with white across all design categories, which might help to explain the lasting appeal of GALLERY IN RED AND BLUE by Faye Burgos.  Her stylized florals, paisleys and coordinates are the very look being shown currently in top decorating and lifestyle publications, blogs and specialty retailers, both traditional and contemporary.

From Valentine’s Day right through to the Christmas season, red with white is a natural favorite, while blue and white is always fresh and calming. Combine them during the summer holidays and any patriotic themed activities, including the fast-approaching July 4th holiday here  in the US.

Look for GALLERY IN RED AND BLUE prints, and our free quilt pattern by Heidi Pridemore, in your local quilt shops.  You can also purchase Nancy Rink’s “Glory Days” quilt pattern at www.nancyrinkdesigns.com.

Christmas… in May?

Sure, you’ve probably heard of Christmas in July, but today we’re taking a tip from our friends at American Patchwork & Quilting with a sneak peek at some of the fabrics you’ll find in shops for Holiday 2014.  Their preview includes just one of our holiday lines, PRIMO PLAIDS – Christmas, shown here in a fun snowman quilt pattern by PastThyme Patterns: PrimoPlaidSnowmanPasThym And we’ve also got  WINTERLY WONDERFUL holiday panel and coordinates by Faye Burgos.  The color scheme includes rich tones of red, green and blue, mixed with neutrals to give a more versatile decorative appeal:

and more winter style from Maw Bell Designs with CHALK IT UP TO WINTER  FLANNELSYou’ll love these classic reds and greens in the designers’ quilt and craft pattern designs, or in a cozy creation of your own.

My Love & Glory Project…

LoveGloryFinishedLisaRecently I met someone who heads up an organization called the Foundation for Military Families, based in South Jersey. Long story short, I offered to see if we had a patriotic quilt available to send to him as a door prize for an upcoming event.  We didn’t, so I decided to whip one up, using Faye Burgos’ beautiful (and convenient) LOVE & GLORY panel and some coordinates.  Just a few hours later, this is the result, along with a few SxS pix.  The fabric really does all of the work, all you have to do is decide on a few borders.  Here I used an ivory ground print and Faye’s Strip-It design.LoveGloryInProgress  I pieced the back from three sections, arranging them from light to dark blue. After some light quilting and trimming, I turned the backing to create a faux binding, secured with zigzag stitching along the edge of the quilt.

The wall hanging will be shown at two of the group’s upcoming events, then finally it will be presented as a gift to a military family.

Patriotic prints aren’t my usual first choice of quilt fabrics, but as it turns out, this was the ultimate quilt project — simple, fun and greatly appreciated by the recipient organization!  The LOVE & GLORY collection is perfect for Flag Day and July 4th celebrations…       —  lisa s

If you receive the great e-newsletters from AllPeopleQuilt.com like we do, you probably noticed this gorgeous wall hanging featured in today’s issue…It’s made with our own M FOR MYSTERY collection by Faye Burgos!  Their editors chose the blue and gold colorway, and we think it would be equally pretty in the pink and black combo: What do you think?  Try out your flower motif machine applique and sawtooth border skills in either version for stunning results.  Get the free pattern!

Pati’s CA Road Trip Continues…

Moving on to Redlands, Pati checks in with the Painted Lady Quilt Shop.  It’s a true haven for Judie Rothermel fans: a customer work-in-progress featuring Pine Tree Lodge (upper left); a full wall of her prints (lower right photo),  and Kerri, who owns the shop, reports that 30 people already signed up for the Civil War: PEACE & UNITY Block of the Month (lower left).  At upper right is Faye Burgos’  LOVE & GLORY.  Judging from these pics, it’s probably safe to say that combinations of blue with red are probably popular in Redlands as well!

Give the Gift of Comfort to a Soldier with Quilts of Valor

We recently shared some exciting new developments in progress at the Quilts of Valor program, an ongoing mission dedicated to providing US servicemen and veterans with comforting quilts.  At the same time, we’re enjoying an enthusiastic response to Faye Burgos’ new LOVE & GLORY collection, the long-awaited follow-up to her popular American Valor Fabric Collection.  As a result of these events, we asked our expert quilt designer Heidi Pridemore to revise her original free project, making it large (64″ x 82) to fit the size requirements of the Quilts of Valor program, and the free project is online now!  Thanks to QOV for sharing your love of quilting for a cause, and Thank You to our dedicated service people past and present, for all that you do.
