QuiltCon Recap – Everybody Loves Wool Penny Crafts!

We’ve barely unpacked from QuiltCon, and suddenly, it’s March 1, also known as the start of National Craft Month, so our next show recap focuses on crafting with wool.  We invited QuiltCon attendees to enjoy a sit-and-stitch break to create a few small, colorful layered embellishments with us.  Wool pennies are traditionally joined together to create pennyrugs, but they also make fun individual embellishments!  QuiltCon - Wool PenniesThey’re also a great way to practice embroidery stitches – just stack a few, then secure and decorate them with blanket stitches, French knots, running stitches and more… Sew one to your garment, quilt, handbag, pillow, make a coin purse or add a pin back for cute wool jewelry! One stitcher plans to make her penny into a luggage tag, while another will be adding a wool penny tea bag pocket to her tea cozy!  Everyone enjoyed the chance to do a bit of handstitching with bright colors, a bit of a Zen moment for those on quilt overload.

Of course, crafting is always a lot more fun with friends, and we’re grateful to our friends at Aurifil for their beautiful threads and 6-strand floss, to Sizzix for their super-handy Big Shot die cutting machine, and to Clover USA for sharing their sight-saving embroidery needles  ; ).
