Darci Schipnewski of Pastthyme Patterns shares her inspiration for the design:
Tokens of Thyme reflects what I think of as the months of the year unfold. In the business of life, I wanted to offer something that was quick to stitch. Quilters will find the project to be versatile, with options for various finishing methods. With a manageable finished size of 18″ x 24″ this seasonal sampler will surely bring joy to your home, as you reflect upon the seasons of thyme.”  Read more…

Trending at Market: Butterflies!

DeirdreWoolButterflyIt looks like one of the top themes emerging from Spring Quilt Market was Butterflies!  So we had to share this gorgeous interpretation of the trend by Deirdre Bond-Abel of Hat Creek Quilts.  What sets her look apart from the rest?  The stunning mix of wool applique on cotton prints, more specifically the Marcus WOOL COLLECTION paired with INTRIGUE prints by Nancy Rink. Deirdre named the quilt pattern, “Borboleta,” the Portuguese word for “butterfly”.

“When I first saw the bright wools at Market last May (2015), I thought “butterfly sampler” so I have been waiting a while to have time to make it. The wools are just divine, the colours so beautiful and the quality of the fabric is first class. The wools combine so beautifully with the Intrigue prints “

Egg-ceptional Wool Inspiration…

WoolEggs1-SusanW

We know...you’re probably having the same reaction to these gorgeous hand-crafted eggs as we did when we first saw them!  They’re by Susan M. Wojciechowski of Ewe-niversity, featuring the Marcus WOOL COLLECTION, and measuring about 4-1/2″ high.  She says, “As a quilter with a knack for applique and embroidery, I also have a love for colorful textiles and carefully curated embellishments. Over time, I developed an intense appreciation for working with wool. Inspiration led to innovative fusion and these patterns were born.”

Susan’s patterns, kits and supplies for these and other applique & embroidery projects are available online.

It’s Time to Announce Our Giveaway Winner…

Thanks to all of you who expressed your enthusiasm and creativity in discussing our NEW AGED MUSLINS.  The winner of this generously swatched sample card is Karen Martin of Breezy Point, MN, who said:

I love the aged muslins and have mostly used them as backgrounds for stitchery, applique and occasionally in piecing. I also love the aged canvas–I’m using it for a background on a wool applique project and it supports the wool wonderfully.  I’ve never tried the colors–they look yummy!

And it seems many of you have used (or plan to use) the New Aged Muslins in similar ways and in many others, like sashings, shirts, Log Cabins, mixed with repros, updated Amish-style quilts and more.  We appreciate your input!  ; )     — lisa
