AccuQuilt Loves AUNT GRACE, Too!

It seems everyone is rediscovering our AUNT GRACE 1930s vintage print collections by reproduction innovator Judie Rothermel, and interpreting them in such exciting new ways!  Recently we featured Laura Coia of Sew Very Easy, and now we’re pleased to share more fresh (and FREE!) inspiration from our friends at AccuQuilt.  This time they’re using Judie’s latest, AUNT GRACE BASKETS OF SCRAPS, along with their GO! Qube GO! Qube Mix & Match 8” Block (55776) and GO! Qube 8” Companion Set-Classics (55780), with fantastic results…

AccuQuilt GO! Qube and Autn Grace FAbrics - marcusfabrics.comWe love their mix of prints and colors to create the diagonal stretched stars motif across the 48″ square quilt.  It’s the perfect size for a baby quilt or chair throw.  This is a timeless look that epitomizes the current 1930s Vintage decorating trends, and it works beautifully in traditional and modern room settings alike.

And as we begin September as National Sewing Month, there’s no better time than  to start your own Aunt Grace quilt!

You’ll Love Laura Coia’s Take on Our AUNT GRACE Quilt!

Be sure to check out Laura Coia of Sew Very Easy, as she breaks down our AUNT GRACE quilt with her own great tips and techniques!  The video is titled “How to Sew a Quilt with Diagonal Rows.”   One great thing about quilting is that there’s always something new to learn, and Laura offers quick and easy variations you’ll want to incorporate into other projects, too!

Judie Rothermel’s AUNT GRACE prints give the quilt a vintage feel, with classic Nine-Patch and Snowball blocks arranged for an updated look.  Of course, prints from Judie’s newest  AUNT GRACE BASKETS OF SCRAPS would work equally well.  We’re working on a few more projects with Laura for Fall 2017, so stay tuned, and until then, subscribe to Sew Very Easy for lots of great  projects and inspiration!

“Chasing Waves” with Laura’s Adorable Beach Towels

When summer rolls around, we all love projects that are quick, fun, and practical!  Check out Laura Berringer’s oh-sew-easy embelllished towels.  She chose prints from Red Brolly’s CHASING WAVES collection to jazz up purchased solid-color towels, with great results!  Read on for the quick tutorial…

  1. First, cut strips of your favorite CHASING WAVES prints.  Cut the height of the fabric border to measure the section of print you want to highlight, plus 1/4″ seam allowances along the top and bottom.  Then cut the length of the fabric border to measure the length of the towel, plus 1/4″  seam allowances at each side.
  2. Turn under the 1/4″ allowances on the sides; press.  Turn under the 1/4″ at the top and bottom edges; press.  Position the fabric border onto the towel, right sides up.
  3. Pin in place, then top-stitch close to all of the folded edges. OPTIONAL: Quilt around the motifs if desired.
  4. Head for the nearest beach…

And to make the most of your limited summer sewing time, Laura suggests using only white thread!  See how well it sinks into the back of the towels for an invisible finish – no need to change bobbin colors!  She might be onto something… We love it when the newbie quilters discover their own favorite tips … but pretty soon we’ll have to stop calling Laura a Newbie  ; )

It was donated to the Hopes & Dreams Challenge, an ongoing effort spearheaded by Quilters Dream Batting.
