Introducing… Marchives

One of the many benefits of our 100+ year history is the ready access to so many beautiful designs, and now, we’re excited to introduce Marchives, a brand featuring new Marcus collections that are inspired by some of our best designs from the past. Occasionally, through Marchives, we’ll take a look back at some of these designs, drawing inspiration with an eye toward re-creating them for today’s quilting enthusiasts. We invite you to join us in celebrating our past in this unique way…

FOR ROSA by Nancy Rink – the first collection to be released under the new Marchives label.

Our first collection under the Marchives label is FOR ROSA by Nancy Rink. Upon seeing the original prints, Nancy was reminded of her maternal great-grandmother, Rosa Reyes Wegis, and the keepsakes she stitched. Read more about Nancy’s inspiration.

GTKH, Now in a 6-Inch Wide Strip Bundle!

Nancy Rink’s GTKH: Getting to Know Hue collection inspires a fresh new look for 2018, with a new 6″ WIDE precut bundle (24 prints) and two new patterns designed by Tiffany Hayes, a friend of Nancy’s, and the owner of Needle in a Hayes Stack.

Tiffany created the “Stars Over Hue” pattern specifically for the new 6” wide strip bundles, then quickly followed up with a second quilt, a re-work of her existing Double Churn block.  Tiffany  manipulated the block design until she was able to utilize all of the pieces in the strip bundle, and the result is her “Double Churn” quilt pattern.  The bundle includes (24) strips, 6” wide x WOF, a generous put-up that lends itself to many other quilt designs as well.  Ask for it at your favorite local quilt shop!

You’ll Love Our 60″ Wide Backings! Here’s Why…

60inchBacksCollageIf you haven’t tried our 60″ WIDE QUILT BACKS yet, you’re in for a treat!  Why 60″? We’ve found it to be the perfect width for lots of situations:

  • Back quilts and wall hangings to 50″ wide with a single length.
  • Back quilts up to approximately 110″ wide by simply piecing two lengths of backing with a single center seam. (Diagram below)
  • Simplify the process of sewing round tablecloths!
  • And because it’s printed on the same fine quality fabric as our 45″ prints, the 60″ yardage can be used on the front of the quilt as well as the back!
  • You’ll love it for easy home décor accents to coordinate with your quilt design, from window coverings to duvet covers, shams and other bedding.

We’re sure you’ll discover your own favorite uses for this versatile, economical alternative to the full 108″ width.  And, we’ve just added three new backings to coordinate with upcoming BOM programs CONESTOGA CROSSING by Pam Buda, and GTKH: Getting to Know Hue, by Nancy Rink.

60inchDIAG———————————-

To join two 60″ widths, we recommend using a seam allowance of ½” to 1″, and pressing the seam open. You can also join using an overlapping seam, sewing down the length, close to both edges of the fabric.

Gorgeous Quilt, Gorgeous Quilting

SturbXmasQuiltNancyWe got up-close & personal with Nancy Rink’s new holiday quilt design, featuring the OLD STURBRIDGE VILLAGE COLLECTION by Judie Rothermel. As you can see, the colors and motifs lend themselves to Christmas projects wtih the rich, traditional feel of Sturbridge.  Nancy’s knack for machine quilting artistry completes the masterpiece, with accents of red and green thread on the back.  Visit Nancy online for “Mill Girls Holiday” pattern information.

Pantone’s Color(s) of the Year for 2016…

PantoneColors 2016For the first time, Pantone has blended TWO hues as their Color of the Year, making 2016 the Year of Rose Quartz (13-1520)  and Serenity (15-3919)

As Pantone explains it:  “As consumers seek mindfulness and well-being as an antidote to modern day stresses, welcoming colors that psychologically fulfill our yearning for reassurance and security are becoming more prominent.”

What do you think of this year’s double-pick?  Does it fit into your quilting & PinkBlueNancysewing plans?  Will you wear these Colors of the Year?  Decorate with them? (Personally, I’m sticking with MARSALA from 2015, which is included in the lineup of coordinates for this year’s choice.)

See how Pantone is pairing up the colors with other hues.  Then check out ON PLUMBERRY LANE by Nancy Rink…

Feeling calmer already, aren’t you?    — lisa
