#MondaysWithMarcus: Sheryl Johnson’s Shirtings by the Dozen

Sheryl Johnson of Temecula Quilt Co is this week’s featured designer, serving up not only a charming quilt pattern, but also a dozen “eggs”, all from her DELIGHTFUL DOZEN collection!

Her shirtings make for the most realistic eggs, but imagine a fun mix of eggs in your favorite Aunt Grace prints or PRIMO BATIKS, just in time for Easter!

You’ll find the instructions for both projects on her blog (along with her own Mini Mondays series of small projects.) Stay tuned to the Mondays with Marcus page on the Marcus website, and/or the MWM Facebook page every Monday, now thru May 17!

#MondaysWithMarcus: UpClose with Sheryl Johnson!

To keep the MWM momentum going as we prepare for the next series, we decided to give a weekly glimpse into the lives of our designers each week. No kits or supplies are needed, just sit back and get to know them better by enjoying some of their most recent creative escapades…

This week we check in with Sheryl Johnson of Temecula Quilt Co. She’s been hard at work, taking inspiration from the past, with her usual eggs-cellent results…

“I have been busy cooking up a special recipe with a rich history. Shirtings were a fashion necessity in the late 1800s,  used to make men’s shirts and Gibson Girl blouses through the turn of the century. Traditionally, these were lightweight cotton prints with small, simple black motifs on a white ground. Today, their low volume appearance makes them the  perfect pairing for your favorite dark and medium calicos. I believe the DELIGHTFUL DOZEN prints are a must for patchwork,  providing all important light contrast, and will make a great addition to your scrap basket.”

What a great way to present your own batch of favorite fabric prints, a dozen at a time ; ) You’ll find these delightful designs in quilt shops in March!

You’ll Love Sheryl Johnson’s SPECIAL SCRAPS!

We know most quilters can easily relate to Sheryl Johnson as she describes SPECIAL SCRAPS, her second fabric collection for Marcus:

Do you have a basket of Special Scraps? You know – the ones you love, the ones that make you happy every time you see them. These are the little pieces of fabric that you never want to run out of. These Special Scraps are perfect in small bits, featured in a simple little quilt or in your next vintage inspired project. This collection for Marcus Fabrics was inspired by those little bits and pieces, and by my love of double pinks, acid greens, chrome yellows, cheddars, grays and lively lights. I hope the prints in this special collection will become some of your new scrap basket favorites, too!

She’s also designed her Special Scraps Sampler quilt, with three size options! As you can see from this photo, they make beautiful home accents, indoors, and outdoors, too… Shown here are the smallest size, and a runner version of a larger size – just piece, quilt and bind your favorite column of the quilt for use as a table runner or narrow wall accent — the pattern offers sew many options!

Look for this very special collection in your local quilts shops, where it may even be offered as a Saturday Sampler program. Quilt shops, contact Sheryl at Temecula Quilt Co. for pattern and program information.
